UNIT OF MEASUREMENT & ANALYSIS | Proportion of countries |
INDICATOR DEFINITION | This indicator measures the proportion of countries where WFP assistance has contributed to a reduction in the use of emergency or crisis livelihood coping strategies among assisted populations, based on the Livelihood Coping Strategy (LCS) outcome indicator. The LCS is used to measure the extent of livelihood coping mechanisms that households needed to utilize as a response to a lack of food or money to purchase food during the 30-day period prior to the survey. The indicator helps in assessing households’ coping capacity and productive capacities in the longer-term, as well as the future impact on access to food for households. |

Note: The objective is to reduce the proportion of households using Crisis or Emergency livelihood coping strategies. However, changes should be assessed not only by the overall Crisis + Emergency prevalence but also by movements between LCS categories. In the follow-up values, if the proportion of households shifting from Crisis to Emergency coping strategies is greater than the observed reduction in the Crisis + Emergency population, the result should be classified as a deterioration and not counted in the numerator, as it reflects a worsening in the severity of coping despite any apparent overall improvement. |
