UNIT OF MEASUREMENT & ANALYSIS

Proportion of Country Offices

INDICATOR DEFINITION

This indicator measures the proportion of country offices (COs) where CSP activities have been screened for environmental and social risks.

Below are some key terms for this indicator:

Environmental and Social Risk Screening (ESRS) is the process of assessing whether a proposed activity poses the risk of causing unintended harm to people (beneficiaries or others) or the environment. The ESRS allows to identify any environmental and social risks that might infringe any of the WFP Environmental and Social Standards. It can be done by means of the WFP Screening Tool or a valid alternative tool (agreed with the donor or provided by the national government). An FLA, MoU, or CC has been ‘screened for environmental and social risks’ when the ESRS for the interventions covered by the agreement or contract has been conducted.

MANDATORY COUNTRY-LEVEL INDICATORS & INCLUSION CRITERIA FOR APR AGGREGATION

Mandatory Country level Indicator(s) composing the corporate indicator:

Inclusion criteria for Mandatory Country Level Indicator(s):

The mandatory country level indicator is included in the aggregation only if all the following conditions are met:

  • The corresponding annual target and follow-up value are greater than zero.

Only CO-level indicators meeting all criteria above are eligible for aggregation.

CALCULATION & AGGREGATION
METHODOLOGY

This indicator is derived from the aggregation of the country-level indicator listed above.

  • This indicator has both a numerator and a denominator. The numerator is the count of country offices that have screened for environmental and social risks in their CSP activities, while the denominator is the count of all country offices with CSPs/ICSPs approved during the reporting year.

The indicator is then calculated as the proportion of such countries out of the total number of countries reporting data. This proportion is expressed as a percentage.

DISAGGREGATION FOR REPORTING IN APR

This indicator is disaggregated by region, strategic outcome and sub-activity.

BASELINE

64 country offices reported CSP activities screened for environmental and social risks.

This is 71% of all CSPs/ICSPs approved (90) in 2024.

LIMITATIONS

This indicator measures the proportion of country offices (COs) where CSP activities have been screened for environmental and social risks, but it does not provide information on risks found and/or progress in the use of the applicable mitigation measures. For this reason, the analysis of this indicator should be always done together with the analysis of the cross-cutting indicator CC4.b “Proportion of country offices where management plans (ESMPs) are formulated and approved to implement mitigation measures addressing environmental risks”.
