UNIT OF MEASUREMENT & ANALYSIS

Percentage of children & PBWG

INDICATOR DEFINITION

Women and children:

Pregnant and breastfeeding women and children between 6- 59 months old

Children and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls in need of wasting treatment and/or prevention in nutrition emergencies:

Pregnant and Breastfeeding women and children (6-59 months) in need for management and/or at risk of wasting in nutrition emergencies will be considered for this indicator. Women and children are considered in need as determined in the country specific Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO). If HNO figures are unavailable, figures of country nutrition clusters or relevant governmental counterparts are used and, in case no other validated and widely approved figures exist, the WFP country office can use planning figures for prevention and calculating management caseloads using WFP guidance. More information can be found here: Caseload and Tonnage Calculator and Food and Nutrition handbook.

For this indicator, women and children who are direct recipients (Tier 1) of specialized nutritious foods (SNFs) or cash-based-transfers/commodity voucher/foods for management and prevention malnutrition will be considered.

MANDATORY COUNTRY-LEVEL INDICATORS & INCLUSION CRITERIA FOR APR AGGREGATION

Mandatory Country level Indicator(s) composing the corporate indicator:

Note: In 2026, due to indicator requirements and system readiness constraints, this corporate indicator will be calculated using a combination of external and internal data sources rather than the mandatory country-level indicators listed below.

Beginning in 2027, once the system requirements to report on this indicator are fully operational, the following mandatory country-level indicators will be used to calculate and aggregate the corporate indicator.

Inclusion criteria for Mandatory Country Level Indicator(s):

The mandatory country level indicator is included in the aggregation of the corporate indicator under SO.1 only if  the all the following conditions are met:

The indicators are is selected under SO.1 and against the following sub-activities:

  1. Management of moderate acute malnutrition/undernutrition (MAM)

  2. Prevention of micronutrient deficiencies (PMD)

  3. Prevention of acute malnutrition (PREV)

  4. Prevention of stunting (STUN)

Only combinations that that have a target set, baseline and a follow-up value will be used for global aggregation.

CALCULATION & AGGREGATION
METHODOLOGY

This note will be updated in 2027, pending COMET enhancements that will allow aggregation based on the two country-level indicators.

For 2026, the following methodology will be used to calculate the global indicator:

Step 1: Calculate the numerator

The numerator is the total number of children (6-59 months) and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls (PBWG) reached with malnutrition prevention and management services in countries and operations classified as emergency contexts. This figure will be aggregated from annual country-level reporting and derived from COMET beneficiary data reported under PMD, MAM, PREV, and STUN (T.1 output indicators).

Step 2: Calculate the denominator

The denominator is the total number of children and PBWG identified as being in need of malnutrition prevention and/or management services in humanitarian or emergency contexts. This information will be sourced outside COMET and compiled at country level using available humanitarian and nutrition data sources - Humanitarian Needs Overviews (HNOs).

Step 3: Calculate the global indicator

The global indicator is calculated by dividing the total number of children and PBWG reached with prevention and management services (numerator) by the total number of children and PBWG in need (denominator), aggregated across all reporting countries. The result is expressed as a percentage.

Data considerations

As Indicators 7 and 13 reported in COMET cannot be used for the global calculation in 2026, data on people in need (PIN) will be maintained outside COMET and primarily sourced from nutrition-related estimates reported in the GRFC and other agreed humanitarian data sources.

From 2027 onward, this methodology note will be revised to reflect the updated COMET aggregation approach.

DISAGGREGATION FOR REPORTING IN APR

Mandatory:

  • Sex (male, female)

  • Beneficiary group (6-59 months and/or PBWG)

BASELINE

2025 Baseline: 53%

LIMITATIONS

The indicator is based on a combination of COMET beneficiary data and external estimates of people in need (PIN). Differences in data sources, methodologies, and the availability of updated humanitarian needs estimates may affect the accuracy and comparability of coverage results across countries and over time. The indicator measures coverage of services, not their quality or nutrition outcomes.
