APPLICABILITY | The selection of this indicator is recommended against the following sub-activities in CSP logframes.

UNIT OF MEASUREMENT & ANALYSIS | Number of engineering works
DEFINITION | This indicator measures the total number of infrastructure projects using WFP engineering expertise, that were implemented following request by national actors or humanitarian organisations. This indicator should not refer to engineering works produced only for WFP use. Below are some important terminologies related to the indicator: The number of infrastructure projects by type include:
Key notes: WFP engineering provides support in the implementation of infrastructure projects during emergency and development operations consistent with WFP’s mandate. Additionally, support is also provided in interagency operations where WFP plays a leading role. Shared services may be provided in one or more of the following professional areas:
| ||||||||||
RATIONALE | Local actors and UN agencies face diverse and complex requirements for design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure - especially in challenging environments. A global community of WFP engineers and technicians offers expertise that spans the entire project life-cycle, with the aim to support efficient UN activites. Tracking the amount of infrastructure projects enabled thanks to WFP engineers as a shared service for the humanitarian community or national actors enables WFP to manage, monitor and report on the performance and enhance engineering services where needed.
DATA SOURCE | Requests by partner organisations are submitted via the online platforms and channelled through MSD to relevant field operations / country offices:
Some requests are submitted via emails, thus consolidate information can be obtained triangulating information with Engineering and Construction Services Purchase Orders (POs) for shared services.
INDICATOR CALCULATION FOR REPORTING | This indicator is calculated through a simple count of the selected detailed indicators showing the types of completed and WFP supported engineering works (including shared service) in the country during the year. COMET will automatically add up the selected detailed indicators Planned/actual values and aggregate them to the level of output indicator. Actuals are reported in the COMET system through the completion report/s, under the section for actual data (implementation module).
DATA ENTRY AND DISAGGREGATION IN CORPORATE SYSTEMS | The output indicator consists of one detailed indicator with further details that require reporting on them to capture further disaggregation related to the types of engineering works prioritized. Country Offices (COs) should select at least one of these further details, based on the CSP design and the operational context
Planned and actual values will be entered in the system as per the table below:
In addition to this, each detailed indicator can be collected in COMET by:
| ||||||||||
PLANNED FIGURES | The planned values of the reporting year are set annually against the detailed indicator, along with other years of the CSP/ICSP. These values should be planned in the COMET Other Output Plan (OOP) and must be established during the first quarter of the first year of CSP/ICSP implementation. Additionally, planned values are captured in the partnerships and/or agreements in COMET system, with a focus on the reporting year. For subsequent years of the CSP/ICSP, targets may either be marked as ‘no data’ or, if initially planned, should be reviewed and updated during the first quarter of the current reporting year.
FREQUENCY OF DATA COLLECTION | The indicator should be collected and reported on at least annually in COMET completion reports.
