Purpose

The purpose of this Indicator Compendium (IC) is to enhance the quality and credibility of Country Office (CO) evidence generation activities and corporate reporting, through the establishment of clear methodologies that describe how to collect, interpret, calculate and report on indicators herein. It does not replace, but rather complements, other WFP guidance: such as the Monitoring Handbook, CSP logframe guidance and other guidelines like the WFP Data Visualization Guideline for VAM & Monitoring Officers.

Target Audience

The Compendium has been developed for cross-functional Global HQ and CO teams including, but not limited to, monitoring, programme, assessment and evaluation employees involved in evidence generation. While it is a tool mainly for technical audiences to review and implement the methodologies of the various indicators, all WFP personnel are invited to use this Compendium.  WFP’s Cooperating Partner and Third-Party Monitors can also consult and make reference to the Compendium. Finally, its use can also be extended to WFP’s donors and external stakeholders to communicate the methodological rigor that is at the foundation of WFP’s evidence generation.

  • For internal colleagues, the Indicator Compendium should be used in tandem with the corporate logframe guidance and the masterlist of indicators (forthcoming) to select the appropriate and required indicators to measure CSP results

  • For external audiences, the Indicator Compendium is a vault of knowledge to understand WFP indicators, WFP CSP results and, if desired, adopt indicators into their own measurement frameworks.1
